Choose appropriate framework or tool for specific problem characteristics
When to use
"Use when choosing which framework or model to apply to a problem. The choice depends on the problem's characteristics — is it a complex system (use systems thinking), a creative challenge (use divergent thinking), a reliability problem (use FMEA). No framework fits all problems."
Example
"A team defaults to agile for every project. For a well-understood, repeatable deployment, agile adds ceremony without value. For an exploratory research project, agile is appropriate. Meta-model selection — match the framework to the problem, not the problem to the framework."
Common misuse
"Having a favorite framework and applying it to every problem. The hammer-nail problem. A framework is a tool; using one tool for all problems produces poor results on problems the tool is not designed for."
