When to use

"Use when a system is too complex to understand as a whole. Partition it into self-contained modules with minimal interdependencies. Each module can then be understood, tested, and modified independently."

Example

"A monolithic application is modularized into auth, billing, catalog, and notification services. Each service has a clear interface and can be deployed independently. A change to billing does not require touching auth."

Common misuse

"Modularizing too finely — every function becomes a module, and the inter-module communication overhead exceeds the complexity saved. Modularization has an optimal granularity; finer is not always better."
