When to use

"Use when information has rich relational structure that flat documents cannot capture. Represent entities and relationships as a graph, enabling queries that traverse connections rather than just searching text."

Example

"A knowledge graph of a company — employees (nodes) connected by manages, reports-to, collaborates-with (edges). A query like find all employees who have worked with someone who reports to the CTO traverses the graph, which would require multiple joins in a relational database."

Common misuse

"Graphing everything when a simpler representation would suffice. Knowledge graphs are powerful for relational queries but expensive to build and maintain. Use them when the relational structure is the point."
